THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY … AND THE CONTROVERSIAL
The Bill Leak Gallery opens at Ettalong Beach

Bill Leak was one of Australia’s most versatile and talented cartoonists, illustrators, writers and portrait painters. He won numerous Walkley Awards, Stanley Awards, and was a 12-times finalist in the Archibald Prize. His paintings hang in the National Portrait Gallery and Parliament House in Canberra. He was controversial, an unparalleled satirist, and often polarising. He was also Dad to Johannes and Jasper. Johannes has followed in his father’s large footsteps to become the editorial cartoonist at The Australian, a role Bill Leak held when he died. Johannes has now opened the Bill Leak Gallery to showcase the many many works his father left behind. The first exhibition, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly features many famous faces — Fred Hollows, Alan Bond, Kerry Packer, Gough Whitlam, Richo, David Campese, Norman Lindsay Brett Whiteley, Gary McDonald — but you’ll need to decide which category they fall into! A wonderful addition to the Central Coast; don’t miss it!
